Spring Wheat, Durum and Winter Wheat
Hard Red Spring Wheat
- Glenn - This variety is best suited for the mid to long season zones of the wheat growing zones. Has a very good resistance to fusarium head blight and was bred for the irrigated areas. Has an excellent test weight and kernel weight relative to the checks.
- AC Carberry - AC® Carberry is an awned, semi-dwarf CWRS variety that when compared to Superb has similar grain yield, higher grain protein potential, shorter, stronger straw and much better fusarium head blight resistance.
- Lillian - A solid stem variety with high yield potential. Lillian continues to be the choice in heavily infested saw-fly areas.
Soft Wheat
- Sadash -- Bred for the Alberta and Saskatchewan irrigate markets, this variety has similiar yield to AC Andrew but lower protein. It is well suite for achieving milling quality. Many customers grew this variety in 2010 for feed wheat due to high yield potential.
- AC Andrew -- Still the benchmark for soft wheat yield. Well suited for irrigation due to its great straw strength. Many farmers grow this variety to sell to the ethanol industry.
Amber Durum
- AC Strongfield -- This is the most grown durum variety in Western Canada. The low cadmium durum performs very well in most dururm growing environments. Under irrigation it must be managed to prevent lodging.
- Verona -- This durum variety yields 96% of Strongfield. Has high test weight and is slightly taller than Strongfield.
Winter Wheat
- Radiant-- Resistance to wheat curl mite which leads to resistance to wheat streak mosiac virus. It is rated MS/S to stem rust and leaf rust and also has good winter hardiness. Very good Straw Strength and lodging resistance which allows for very high yields.
- CDC Buteo -- This variety is great for dryland in the prairies. If you grew Osprey in the past you will love CDC Buteo. Be cautious of planting this variety on irrigation.
Feed Barley and Malt Barley
2-Row Barley
- CDC Austensen - is a two row feed barley with top grain yield and short, strong straw. Produces grain yield that is higher than Xena along with high test weight and large, plump kernels. Shows higher reistance to net form net blotch, net form spot blotch, and spot blotch.
- CDC Coalition -- CDC Coalition performed very well across the prairies. This is definitely a leader in yield and standability which makes it a desirable variety in the most fertile conditions. We have many customers buying Coalition instead of Xena due to similiar yield and better straw strength. On irrigation or dryland this is a high yielder.
6-Row Barley
- Chigwell -- A great multi purpose variety feed/forage variety. Chigwell has a smooth awn that yields very well. Many of our growers were very happy with this variety in 2010. Has stronger straw than Vivar.
- CDC Yorkton -- This variety is known for its three way capabilities. CDC Yorkton is a six row malt, feed and forage variety. Stands up well in fertile conditions and yields very when combined for grain. Haney Farms sells many tonnes of this variety for barley silage production.
Malt Barley
- Bentley -- Finally a malt variety that yields like a feed. This is the malt variety that everyone is talking about. Provides good malting quality with low protein and high extract, plump and kernel weight.
Triticale and Oats
Spring Triticale
- Companion - a tall variety made for the forage and grain use markets. A longer season variety that also has a very large head. Many customers have had great success blending Companion with barley to create a great silage mix.
Winter Triticale
- Hy-Octane - A new high yielding variety best fit for the forage or grain market
- Bobcat -- About 20 cm or 7.9 inches shorter, 10% higher yielding, and has similar winter survival to Pika in the parkland areas. It is easy threshing and has short awnlettes which may improve green-feed production.
- Fridge -- A Great variety for silage or swath grazing.
Oats
- Mustang -- a very strong strawed oat variety that is great to grow for either grain or silage
- Jordan ---
